The Story of Casa Marullo
The word marullo (pronounced mah-roo-yoh in Spanish) is used in Puerto Rico to depict a large swell that usually turns into a surfing wave, very common in the west coast of the Island. As surfers know, a marullo is generated when different sources of energy converge, interact and unite. The convergence of these energy sources frequently produces waves that go unnoticed by many, but they sometimes produce amazing mega waves known as “Nazare” waves that only those known in the surfing community as Mavericks appreciate understand.
We named our house, Casa Marullo, in honor of my mother, who was known by her family and friends by that iconic name. She was a beautiful woman with an equally beautiful spirit full of energy and strength who, like the marullo, helped all around her find their strengths and orient their energy and aspirations into positive and productive swells.
We chose the location of this house in the hope that the natural forces around it, its magnificent ocean views and fresh Trade Wind breezes will converge in you and produce in you your own Marullo and you return to your daily routine refreshed and revitalized.
